چکیده

Nanoparticles can be used for the introduction of functional properties into polymer matrix systems. In epoxy matrix systems low percolation thresholds can be achieved, especially with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) [1,2]. Different dispersion techniques as well as curing conditions have influence on the formation of an electrically conductive network. Consequently material properties can vary and a gradient of electrical conductivity can be established in a large sample. If a mechanical load is applied to such a sample, the resulting changes in the conductive network structure will be reflected in a change of the overall sample resistance.

Experimental Study on Amine-Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes’ Effect on the Thermomechanical Properties of CNT/Epoxy Nano-composites

This paper investigated the effect of the amine-functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the thermomechanical properties of CNT/epoxy nanocomposites. Mechanical stirring and ultra-sonication were utilized to uniformly disperse CNTs into the epoxy matrix. Non-functionalized and amine-functionalized CNTs with different weight percentages (wt. %) were mixed into the epoxy resin. Using standard te...

Fabrication and Nanocompression Testing of Aligned Carbon-Nanotube-Polymer Nanocomposites

The exceptional electronic, thermal, and mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have motivated extensive research on their manufacturing and applications. At bulk scales, there is particular interest in property enhancements by adding CNTs to polymers to make composite materials. Most work on CNT-based composites presented in the literature to date has focused on dispersion of singleo...

Rheological Modeling and Forming Process Simulation of CNT Nanocomposites

This paper is concerned with the rheological modelling of untreated Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) suspended within an epoxy resin and its application in nanocomposites forming processes. The untreated CNT suspensions exhibited significant steady shear-thinning and contained optically resolvable aggregate structures. A simple orientation model, based on a Fokker-Planck advection–diffusion description,...

The impact of different multi-walled carbon nanotubes on the X-band microwave absorption of their epoxy nanocomposites

BACKGROUND Carbon nanotube (CNT) characteristics, besides the processing conditions, can change significantly the microwave absorption behavior of CNT/polymer composites. In this study, we investigated the influence of three commercial multi-walled CNT materials with various diameters and length-to-diameter aspect ratios on the X-band microwave absorption of epoxy nanocomposites with CNT conten...
